Fear of Flying

February 28, 2024

Did you know that an estimated 40% of Americans suffer from a fear of flying?

I was surprised by that statistic as well.

As a Flight Attendant, flying is second nature to me.

I don’t even think about it. I’ve been flying internationally since I was a baby and throughout my childhood – constantly traveling between two countries – so that probably explains why I find it so…normal.

However, when I’m in a car on the highway? Different story entirely. Whether I’m the one driving or in the passenger seat – I always pray for safety!

If you suffer from a fear of flying, I think that today’s video will really help. It’s a super quick one and I explain exactly why air travel is so safe.

But let’s talk for a minute about anxiety in general.

I think nowadays – more than ever – we all struggle with anxiety on one level or another.

While I regularly use mindfulness practices to keep it at bay, I would be lying if I said that I don’t struggle with some anxiety as well.

Lately, I’ve been very preoccupied about my daughter…she’s fine! But I had some worries about her school and future plans that I need to arrange.

I worried so much that I made I made myself sick. Sick with a cold, but still. I rarely get sick these days, so that was a sign to me that I need to once again, work on my mindset.

So once again, I returned to my mindfulness techniques. Meditation, Emotional Freedom technique, inspiring talks, affirmations and breathing techniques.

And you know what? When I return to this mindful place, I find that I’m able to think so much more clearly and come up with creative solutions to my problems.

If you struggle with anxiety, whether general or about a specific issue, there are many things that can help!

  • Magnesium – If you’re not already taking it, Magnesium is a very important supplement for just about all of us. While it serves many purposes, Magnesium is essential to our nervous system and anxiety is very hard to calm if we don’t get enough of it. For my favorite Magnesium supplement, check out my resource page: https://www.yogabyamalia.com/resources

  • Meditation – I know, it’s really hard to sit still when you’re anxious! But just 5 minutes a day can be super helpful in helping you lean into your intuition and calm down the chatter of your mind. I made a video here on a very easy way to begin meditating.

  • Breathing Techniques – If you are feeling extremely activated or anxious, my favorite breathing technique is a an ancient Yogic practice called Nadi Shodhana. It’s incredibly effective and you can do it anytime, anywhere. Try this next time you’re having trouble falling asleep. Learn how to do it here

  • EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) Tapping – this is a wonderful technique that I love, that provides very quick relief. You “tap” along the meridians of your face, hands and chest, while using specific affirmations. I absolutely love Brad Yates’ videos on this, he has videos where he guides you through every possible issue you might be struggling with.

I’d love to hear what you think of these techniques and what you find the most helpful 💗
